2012 Education Expo

Here is some information regarding The 2012 Education Expo coming up on March 8th, 15th and 22nd. The LDS American Fork Employment Resource Center is excited with the exceptional list of educational exhibitors who will be participating. Feedback from this event in years past has been very positive, and will offer a great opportunity for your youth, and their parents to gather information and search for educational options. In addition, they invite single parents or members wanting to upgrade their current education or income level. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Danny Jessop at 801-372-1445 or danny@dannyjessop.com.

Visiting Teaching Moment

One of my visiting teaching memories/messages relates back about 28 years ago. We (my late husband Scott) myself and our 6 year old daughter Courtney moved from Salt Lake to the small town of Hinckley, Utah. It was a difficult time for me because I had never lived away from my wonderful family. It was a lonely time for me, I just felt out-of-sorts. My husband had family there which was great but none the less I missed my family. The one thing that brought me through that difficult time was the church and more specifically my dear visiting teachers. They came and taught me and in a short time I was one of the bunch, feeling a part. Moving to a small town is something I really cherish now. As I look back, the ward family was so close and loving, I felt like I was "home". I still keep in touch with Joanie Maxfield, she moved away to Tremonton from Hinckley a few years before we moved here to Lehi. We lived in Hinckley for 20 some years. I have loved the sisters I have visit taught and those that visit me. What an inspired program visiting teaching is, we are so blessed to have it in our lives.

Visiting Teaching Message: Guardians of the Hearth

You are the guardians of the hearth,” said President Gordon B. Hinckley (1910–2008) as he introduced “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” in the general Relief Society meeting in 1995. “You are the bearers of the children. You are they who nurture them and establish within them the habits of their lives. No other work reaches so close to divinity as does the nurturing of the sons and daughters of God.”1 For almost 17 years now this proclamation has reinforced that our most significant responsibilities are centered in strengthening families and homes—no matter our current circumstances….

Fortunately, we are not left alone in our efforts. “The greatest help,” says Sister Thompson, “we will have in strengthening families is to know and follow the doctrines of Christ and rely on Him to help us.”2
