Visiting Teaching Message

When we honor our covenants, Heavenly Father can prepare the way for us. We are to live our covenants with precision. We can, for example, be precise in praying, in studying the scriptures, in holding a current temple recommend, in dressing modestly, in honoring the Sabbath. As we do so, our children will know and be able to say, “We do not doubt our mothers knew it” (Alma 56:48).

Latter-day Saint women who recognize that their strength comes from the Lord’s Atonement do not give up during difficult and discouraging times. As covenant keepers, we excel at upholding, nurturing, and protecting children and youth so that one day we might say of this rising generation, “Never had I seen so great courage, nay, not amongst all” (Alma 56:45).

Visiting Teaching Moment

There was a period in my life when I was faced with some very difficult trials. What really helped me through this trying time was my visiting teaching sisters. They were terrific! They constantly went out of their way to make sure that I was taken care of through their kind acts of service. Some of their service included taking me to the temple, calling me, leaving things at my door, praying with me and for me. They truly became my friend. They loved me. They were amazing sisters that went above and beyond any visiting teaching relationship that I had experienced! Throughout this time I was inspired by their great examples as my testimony grew. All this because of two visiting teachers that took the time to care. I will forever love and cherish these two sisters and what they did for me.

In my scriptures I keep a quote by President James E. Faust, which states, "No matter what circumstances you sisters experience, your influence can be marvelously far-reaching. I believe some of you have a tendency to underestimate your profound capacity for blessing the lives of others. More often than not, it is not on stage with some public pronouncement but in your example of righteousness and the countless gentle acts of love and kindness done so willingly, so often on a one-to-one basis.--Karla Jessop
